, why all of the love? good morning, welcome to early state. i'm christine rom yans. >> and i'm john berman. it's january 28th it's monday. we'll begin with that developing story out of brazil. deadly chaos at a nightclub. early yesterday morning. killing a staggering 233 people. many of them college students celebrating their last weekend of summer break. it happened at kiss nightclub in santa maria. recovery workers now say they're hearing the eerie sound of ring tones. we're in santa maria with the latest. >> reporter: smoke filled the air when the first firefighters entered the nightclub. where shirtless men were already trying to rescue some of the injured. emergency vehicles arrived not realizing the extent of the tragedy they faced. chaos and terror among survivors and the body of victims all around. the fire broke out at about 2:00 in the morning at a nightclub called kiss in santa maria in bra sail's southern most state. the club was packed with some 2,000 people, twice its legal capacity according to officials >> translator: people who were inside the facility when they cam

at the schedule of events today. at 8:45, the president will be attending a church service at st. john's episcopal church right around the corner from the white house. the swearing in ceremony begins at approximately 11:20 this morning. we will be live at with all that. after the inaugural, the president will have lunch in the u.s. capitol with dignitaries and congressional leaders. that begins at about 1:00. we'll show you as much of that as we can. the parade itself from the capitol to the white house will begin at approximately 2:45. the inaugural balls will get started at about 8:45. all of that will be live on our schedule today. as we mentioned, we want to hear from you as well. we will put the numbers up on the screen -- we will take your calls, tweets, etc.. you can go ahead and dial in right now. hundreds of tweets already at #inaug2013. these are folks trying to get through security. here is what some of them say. -- hannah says -- ann says -- there is quick to win out there this morning. -- wind out there this morning. chesley says -- chelsea says -- ian -- the front page of "the new yo

, everyone. welcome to "early start," i'm john berman. >> and i'm zoraida sambolin. thursday, january 24th, 5:00 a.m. in the east. let's get started here. up first if you are still wrapped up in your blankets you may want to stay right where you are. >> do not move. >> that bitter cold blast is gripping much of the country and it's not expected to go away anytime soon. people were mummified on the street with the temperature plunging to single digits. even for late january this is ridiculous for these parts. the u.s. is feeling like 33 below in some areas. today the south could see subfreezing temperatures and wind chills and ice where people are not used to driving in winter weather. and where places are not used to preparing for those crazy temperatures either. authorities say three people have already died from exposure to this deep, deep cold. jennifer delgado with the latest on the deep freeze. first we have susan candiotti, live in columbus circle outside our building. susan, i consider myself a hearty midwestern gal. but even this is crazy. how low are the temperatures going to get? >>
